Off the highway, past the hedge, up the steps.

Nostos sits back from the dune, a deck running the full width of its front and room for three cars in the drive. Entry is keyless. Your code arrives before you travel, so the door opens the moment you do.

One room, and everyone in it.

The middle of the house is one open room under a whitewashed plank ceiling that climbs to the ridge. Kitchen at one end, stone fireplace at the other, and a long linen sectional between them.

The fire is at the far end.

Whoever is cooking stays in the conversation. Whoever is reading on the window seat never left it. Eight people, one room, and nobody stuck out at the edges.

The shape a week here tends to take, hour by hour.

  1. The kitchen: white shaker cabinets with glass uppers, a herringbone tile backsplash, stainless gas range and hood, dishwasher and french-door refrigerator, under the same whitewashed plank ceiling and iron ring chandelier.

    The kitchen is the first room awake

    Coffee and tea are already in the cupboard, the gas range comes up fast, and the herringbone tile catches whatever light the morning decides to give you. Someone is always up before you.

    Thirty yards, then seven miles

    A public access trail sits on either side of the house. Chairs live in the mud room, towels in the laundry closet, and you are on the sand four minutes after you decide to go.

  4. A round wooden dining table laid for six with coral napkins and a water pitcher, the stacked-stone fireplace and the sectional behind it, and the kitchen with its stainless refrigerator to the right.

    The table is round on purpose

    No head of the table, and no one stranded at the end of it. The kitchen is four steps away, the fire is at your back, and dinner runs as long as it wants to.

  5. The hot tub at dusk with its cover propped open and the water lit turquoise, festoon bulbs strung overhead through a shore pine, two striped towels hung ready, and a propane grill on the concrete pad alongside.

    Held at 101 °F, swimsuits on, and a rinse first. Children under fourteen need an adult with them. After that: the fire, a book off the shelf, and the negotiation about tomorrow.

    A queen room named for the goddess who sent Odysseus home. Extra sheets and pillows in the closet, a laundry bag on the back of the door, and its own thermostat.

  3. Riptide: a double bedroom with navy and white buffalo-check bedding, a woven headboard, matching bedside lamps and framed prints, and a curtained window looking into shore pine.

    A double room fitted out like the rest: dresser storage, hangers, and a room fan for the nights the coast decides to go still.

  4. The Anchor room: a bed with striped and woven cushions against a pale wall, a wall-mounted television opposite, a pair of crossed wooden oars hung as art, and a built-in cupboard alongside.

    With family in mind, a queen room and hidden trundle for a kiddo, with the same kit as the rest: dresser, hangers, a fan, and a thermostat you set yourself. Plus its own smart TV, so someone can watch something without taking over the family room.

  1. The beach, and the gear for it

    Access trails roughly thirty yards to either side. Chairs in the mud room, towels in the laundry closet, and two boogie boards and two skim boards for the days the surf cooperates.

  2. A kitchen that opens onto the table

    Gas range, full gas oven, dishwasher, and a large refrigerator. Coffee, a grinder, tea, basic spices, and paper goods are already in. Groceries are a short walk away at Little Apple or Manzanita Fresh Foods.

  3. Hot tub until ten

    Held at 101 °F, from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM. Swimsuits on, a rinse first, and fifteen minutes is plenty. The grill sits on the same pad.

  4. Stone fireplace and a long sofa

    For the gray afternoons, which the Oregon coast supplies generously. Smart TVs in the family room and in Anchor, streaming apps already signed in.

  5. Room for the rainy day

    Scrabble and the rest of the classics, books, a travel crib, and a high chair, plus a full-size washer and dryer. Every room has its own thermostat, so nobody has to negotiate the heat.

  6. The dull, decisive things

    Driveway parking for three. Keyless entry with a code sent before you travel. Wi-Fi. Fresh linens and towels. Shampoo and body wash. Detergent.

No events. Gatherings of more than ten people need the owners' permission in advance. Quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 10:00 AM.
Hot tub
Private, and open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Children under fourteen need an adult with them, and children under five should not use it. The full rules come with the guest guide once you have booked.
Accessibility
The main entry is reached by an exterior staircase, and the house is arranged over two levels with one bathroom on each. Both bathrooms are shower-only. The property has not been assessed for step-free access, so tell us what you need before you book and we will give you a straight answer.
